The MOOC “Educational technologies in support for collaboration and evaluation in virtual learning environments” was offered in January 2020 by Open University of Catalunia – Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and University of Valladolid-Universidad de Valladolid (UVA) through Miriadax, platform owned by Telefónica Educación Digital (TED).
This 5-week MOOC was delivered in Spanish targeting prospect and in-service teachers as well as everyone interested in methodologies and technologies to support online collaborative learning and evaluation.
As a regular MOOC, it included teaching modules based on video-lectures, self-assessment tests and discussion forums to share questions and comments among the participants and instructors. Five collaborative activities implemented by the colMOOC platform were included to support synchronous discussions between two peers guided by conversational pedagogical agents that triggered interventions based on transaction patterns.
About 500 in-chat discussions enriched with beneficial agent interventions were successfully completed with a high satisfaction rate. Overall, 2,000 students registered in the MOOC while 1,154 started and 322 finished, managing a respectable 27,9% completion rate.
An exciting opportunity to learn about and participate in an international community devoted to the use of Conversational Agents for Learning. Conversational Agents (CAs) are an innovative technology that uses Artificial Intelligence techniques to provide more personalized and fruitful interactions for learning.
