In the context of the Erasmus+ colMOOC project, the first trial with the colMOOC conversational agent was carried out in Spanish at the University of Valladolid. The objective was to test the prototype of the new collaborative tool developed in the project and gain hands-on experience in the design and implementation of learning activities with conversational agents in university classes with students.

The trial took place at the Faculty of Education at the University of Valladolid in the Bachelor course “ICT in Education” (23rd November 2019). 54 students in two consecutive university classes participated in a presential collaborative activity with the conversational agent which lasted 40 minutes. The students worked in pairs and interacted with the agent to collaboratively solve a learning task. The learning activity was designed by the course educators with the configurable agent editor developed in the project.

The overall experience of the students was positive and expressed their willingness to participate in more conversational agent activities in the future. The course educators pointed up the high interactivity and engagement of students and were enthusiastic about this new innovative method for their classes. The experiences gained in this first trial will inform the new pilots in Spanish which will take place in a Massive Open Online Course in MiriadaX  MOOC platform in January 2020.
